Stop Penalizing Doordash Drivers for Denying Low-Pay Deliveries

The Issue

As a Doordasher, I face the predicament of either accepting low-pay deliveries or be penalized for denying them. Completing these deliveries often doesn't even cover the cost of my gas, let alone the erosion on my vehicle or the time I invest. A decline in my rating for rejecting such orders leads to me missing out on higher paying offers so this leaves us essentially forced with accepting delivery offers that clearly don't cover the time invested, the cost of gas miles driven, and wear and tear on our vehicles.

Doordash is a reputable company professed to supporting its drivers. Regrettably, the reality appears to be divergent from this promise. In a report by the Economic Policy Institute in Feb 2020, it is stated that gig workers like us make up to 58% less than regular employees (Economic Policy Institute, 2020). We believe that every driver's contribution should be valued, and the current system seems to place undue burden on us.

We propose that Doordash reforms its rating policy, so drivers are not demoted for denying unprofitable deliveries. This will lead to improved driver satisfaction, motivating us to provide better service, thus benefiting customers and leading to a positive cycle of prosperity for Doordash.

Stand with us in demanding this change. As drivers who are backbone of this service, we deserve to make decisions that are best suited for our financial well-being without fear of punitive actions. Please sign this petition to urge Doordash to amend its rating policy.
