Stop Penalizing Cancer Patients for Surviving Their First Treatment

Stop Penalizing Cancer Patients for Surviving Their First Treatment
The Issue
My husband, Paul, has a recurrent Grade 2 IDH-mutant glioma, a brain tumour that will progress without treatment. Vorasidenib is the only drug that can slow it down. Health Canada has already approved it. Yet because Paul previously had chemotherapy and radiation, he is being denied coverage today. Not because it will not work, but because of a bureaucratic technicality.
Every month, we drain our retirement savings to pay $13,000 out of pocket for a drug Canadians should have access to. That’s $156,000 a year. We are paying for Paul’s life ourselves, while other countries already cover this drug for recurrent patients.
Families like ours are being pushed toward financial collapse just to keep their loved ones alive. That is not what a fair healthcare system is supposed to look like. It is unacceptable.
Health Canada and provincial drug plans must fix this now.
By signing this petition, you are demanding coverage of Voranigo (vorasidenib) for all eligible patients, including those with prior treatment. No more loopholes. No more excuses. No more families forced to choose between survival and financial ruin.
Paul deserves access. So does every Canadian facing this tumour. Please add your name.
