The Elon town council met on Tuesday, July 12th to discuss RZ2022-02. The mayor and members of the board asked many thoughtful questions. They clearly shared many of the community's concerns. The net result was for the request to be continued for additional time to discuss among themselves and with the community.
That has led to the question of 'what's next?'
In truth, it appears that Parc Northwest, in some form, will be approved. It is likely that we haven't made enough impact to stop it altogether, but the council most certainly has concerns and is looking deeper.
What is next is to continue to reach out to the mayor and town council with proposed compromises that we, as a community, can live with. That might be different for everyone. We're going to push for compromises we feel will ease traffic issues.
We're also going to continue to advocate for solutions to reduce the density to some degree.
If you want to get involved, we still recommend calling the mayor's office and the town council. They seem to be listening. Give them your concerns and perhaps even propose a compromise. The more they hear from you, the better!
Your efforts have clearly slowed the process down so that they can make an educated decision. We encourage you to keep doing that.
