Stop Overselling Parking at CSULB — 22,000 Permits, Only 14,000 Spots!

The Issue

I am a senior at CSULB and purchased a year-long parking pass for $500. I, like over 22,000 other students, expected this significant cost to guarantee reasonable access to parking. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. Many students experience extreme difficulty finding parking, especially after 9:00am. This disproportionately affects commuter students and negatively impacts students' education when they are unable to find parking and attend class.

With the parking pass price lock ending next year, upcoming decisions around parking policy will have a major impact on students. We are calling for the creation of a student-administration coalition to ensure transparency and student input in these decisions to be formed by the 2026 Fall semester. This coalition would address key issues such as permit pricing, the number of passes sold, and policies like registering multiple vehicles under one permit.
