I've been out canvassing the ward for my councillor campaign, and this issue keeps coming up at the door - it's clear how much people care about what happens to this plaza. I don't have hard news to report yet, but I didn't want to go quiet on you.
My best guess is another proposal is coming in the near future. That's part of why I'm running: this ward needs a councillor who gets ahead of these things instead of reacting after the fact, and who actually brings the community into the process early, when input can still shape the outcome.
On the building slated to remove the Tim Hortons - that application is still waiting on a hearing date at the Ontario Land Tribunal. Nothing has moved yet, but as soon as a date is set, I'll post it here so people can plan to attend or make their voices heard if they want to.
A few of you have also asked why the notice sign is still up outside the Walmart. Best I can tell, they just haven't bothered taking it down. I don't think that level of disrespect for the community is something we should quietly accept, so I've reached out to city staff and asked them to issue an order requiring its removal. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back.
