We urge Peterborough City Council to reduce or waive landfill dumping fees for registered charitable organizations.
Vinnies Thrift Store is a non-profit organization that provides affordable goods, food assistance, and essential support to countless residents in Peterborough, Lakefield, and surrounding communities.
Unfortunately, people are frequently dumping garbage and unusable items on Vinnies’ property instead of taking them to the landfill. This forces Vinnies to pay significant landfill dumping fees — money that should be going toward helping people in need.
By reducing or waiving these fees for registered charities, the City can protect essential community resources and help ensure that organizations like Vinnies can continue serving vulnerable residents without unfair financial strain.
We, the undersigned, call on Peterborough City Council to act now and support the organizations that support us.
