The Issue

The farms and businesses that have been in our families for generations in Burnet, TX, are under threat. A proposed 765-kilovolt transmission line by Oncor and the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) is set to cut through our cherished lands, putting at risk not only our generational legacies but also our health and future.

Our entire life savings have been invested in these lands. These farms and family businesses are not just properties; they are our heritage, woven with memories of the past and hopes for the future. Many of us depend on this land for our livelihood and have worked tirelessly to maintain it for future generations. The construction of these power lines will tear apart the very fabric that holds our community together.

Moreover, the health implications of living in close proximity to such high-voltage transmission lines cannot be ignored. Numerous studies suggest that exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) from power lines may have adverse health effects. Our community cannot afford this added risk, and we refuse to become collateral damage in corporate pursuits.

It is not just an issue of health and heritage; it is about fairness and justice. Oncor's plan to run these lines through privately owned land, forcing people to lose their legacy and life's work, reflects a worrying disregard for the working class and rural communities. Why should we bear the brunt when there are existing corridors, like highways, where these lines can run with far less impact?

We call upon Oncor and LCRA to reconsider their plans and explore alternative routes that run alongside highways. This adjustment would mitigate the impact on private properties and ensure that our family's legacies, investments, and health remain protected.

Our community's future should not be sacrificed for corporate convenience. Sign this petition and help us preserve our land for the generations to come.

Oncor, how can you move forward with this project knowing it’s not in the best interest of the people it affects? The public does not support it. Your pursuit of profit should never outweigh the voices and well-being of the communities you’re impacting. This project takes from us—without regard, without consent.
