The Issue

This petition addresses the tragic death of Alexis Wilson on July 27, 2021, and aims to highlight the ongoing issues of excessive force and resulting financial liabilities within communities across the United States. Specifically, this case concerns the officer-involved shooting of Alexis Wilson. Despite his involvement, Officer Carlton continues to receive workers' compensation benefits from Dolton PD linked to the Illinois Workers' Compensation Board.

We have repeatedly communicated our concerns to both entities regarding Officer Carlton's conduct and the legitimacy of his ongoing benefits. We are urging the Workers' Compensation Board to investigate the extended duration of these benefits, particularly the alleged ankle injury stemming from the car crash during the shooting, which has persisted for nearly four years.

Furthermore, we call upon the new administration in the Village of Dolton to initiate a comprehensive reform in 2025, starting with improved communication between residents and the Dolton Police Department. We suggest leveraging the Melanie Fitness Center as a neutral ground for community engagement and programs involving law enforcement and other stakeholders, fostering a stronger, more unified Dolton.

To honor Alexis Wilson's memory and offer remembrance to her estate, we propose renaming the Melanie Fitness Center in her honor. Moreover, we urge the administration to not only revamp and re-evaluate the police department in response to numerous complaints of misconduct, but also to terminate Officer Carlton's employment, demonstrating a commitment to accountability for officers who create liabilities for the village.

We also raised concerns about Officer Jared Carlton's close friendship with Officer Perez, who was also involved in Alexis Wilson's death and reportedly linked to multiple prior fatalities, including three in Dolton, Illinois. Noting Officer Perez untimely demise. We question Officer Colton's mental stability and his ability to interact appropriately with residents.

This petition, outlining the family's position, will be submitted to the Illinois Workers' Compensation Board and the newly elected officials of the Village of Dolton. We will continue to monitor Officer Jared Colton, and any civil matters related to policing in Dolton, Illinois. We also would like to make the public Office Carlton potential connection to Indiana and the possibility he may seek employment there! We encourage awareness of this possibility.

Thank you for the Family and Friend of Alexis Wilson
