The Issue

Oakland Materials LLC is seeking to operate a ‘Class B’ recycling facility at 342 West Oakland Ave.

This business is a serious threat to our towns’ value and health.  This has nothing to do with politics but rather the health of the town and its people.

From the information shared, Oakland Materials LLC  will be processing approximately 900 tons (about 50 dump trucks) a day, 6 days a weeks. They would be crushing/recycling construction material including concrete, asphalt and other toxic materials (including potentially asbestos and other cancer causing toxins) during peak hours of the day between 6am-5pm.

The pollutants released as a result of this recycling will impact not only air and water quality, but also will drastically increase noise pollution and add additional traffic.  All these outcomes have a significant negative impact for the town.

From the discussions at town hall meeting, there is an ask for Oakland residents to sign a petition to help stop the application from going through.

The council is fighting this project but needs help from the residents in Oakland.

Two ways to help boost the support:

1. Signing this petition (it’s quick and easy) -  the petitions needs to be in the mayors hands by Oct 25.

2. Additionally, The BCUA will accept written comments until October 28, 2023.  Comments may be mailed to the BCUA or residents may submit comments via e-mail to deputyclerk@oakland-nj.organd the Borough will transmit them on our resident’s behalf.

Detailed information on the application can be found on the BCUA website here: https://www.bcua.org/index.asp?SEC=11424550-6A45-4ECB-BA69-2841D810E763
