We are officially backed by our community’s representatives. Last night, during the Community Board 5 (CB5) meeting, the Board voted to formally oppose the NineDot Energy BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) proposal for 69th Place.
The Board’s rejection of this facility confirms what we have been saying all along: a high-risk, industrial-scale lithium-ion battery facility is fundamentally incompatible with a dense residential neighborhood and, most critically, a school zone. > CB5 has echoed our concerns regarding:
Public Safety: The lack of a viable evacuation plan in the event of a "thermal runaway" or toxic fire.
Zoning Overreach: The developer’s attempt to exploit "City of Yes" carbon-neutrality loopholes to bypass local residential protections.
Neighborhood Impact: The unacceptable proximity to PS/IS 128 and local childcare facilities.
The community has spoken. Now, we need the city to listen. Please share this petition to keep the pressure on our local and city representatives to honor the Board's recommendation and stop this project.
