Stop Netflix from telecasting Tribhuvan Mishra CA topper
The Issue
Entertainment should not be at the cost of dignity and truth.
We, the undersigned, are writing to express our concern about the portrayal of the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the upcoming Netflix series "Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper." This proposed release is shocking and painful especially in the context of the 75th year anniversary of ICAI which was created in 1949 by an Act of the Parliament of India
The series , based on the trailer in Social media, features the protagonist, a CA topper, who turns to unconventional , vulgar and "compromising" work supposedly following a banking crisis. This narrative not only sensationalizes a respected profession but also potentially damages the public perception of Chartered Accountants and totally undermines the value of education in the context of empowerment and upliftment of the society
Our key Concerns:
Misrepresentation of Professional Integrity: Chartered Accountants are known for their strict ethical standards and integrity. The portrayal of a CA being forced into unconventional work undermines and misrepresents the professionalism and ethical fabric that bind the CA community.
Sensitivity to Professional Image: Many young aspirants look up to Chartered Accountants. Seeing a character who excels in this field and then enters compromising situations for survival could dissuade them from pursuing this noble profession, fearing societal misjudgments.
Impact on image of the profession : Chartered Accountancy is a profession that demands years of hard work, dedication, and continuous learning. The depiction of such professionals ( numbering over 4 lakhs across the globe and 10 lakhs to students pursuing the CA course ) in demeaning scenarios can have lasting impacts on the reputation of countless hardworking individuals across the globe.
Call to Action
It is crucial that entertainment mediums consider the broader impact of their creative decisions on professional communities. We strongly demand the creators and Netflix to stop the telecast in mid July and reconsider the narrative that involves harmful stereotypes and unrealistic, sensationalised, malicious, malafide , vulgar and frivolous depictions of the CA Profession and especially that of a journey of a CA topper
