Stop Nepotism in Brandywine: Demand a Fair Hiring Process for Concord High Principal

The Issue

We, the parents, educators, students, and concerned members of the Brandywine School District community, express our concern regarding the recent appointment of, Jeff Lawson, step-son of Superintendent Lisa Lawson-as the new Principal of Concord High School.

This decision raises significant concerns about transparency, fairness, and potential violations of district policies:

Superintendent Lawson’s contract requires that promotional positions, including those involving increased pay and responsibilities, be publicly posted and open to qualified candidates. However, this position was not posted, and is being labeled a “lateral move”—despite the clear increase in salary and responsibilities.

Mr. Lawson has no high school-level administrative experience-only middle school, and lacks demonstrated expertise in college and career readiness, something that is crucial for leading a high school.

As a result, qualified candidates were shut out of the hiring process, undermining the district’s stated commitment to equity, fairness, and merit-based advancement.

These actions compromise community trust and threaten the integrity of the Brandywine School District’s leadership.
