Stop Napa Fair's Cuts to Youth Programs

Stop Napa Fair's Cuts to Youth Programs
The Issue
Protect Napa County kids, animals and community’s fair experience. Say NO to “Show and Go”!
The proposed elimination of the traditional rabbit and guinea pig program during The Napa Town & Country Fair week threatens more than you may think—it impacts the heart of our Napa County community.
Sign to Say NO to “Show and Go”!
The Napa Fair has changed to only allow auction animals to stay at the fair. Pet and show animals—like rabbits and guinea pigs—will be brought in before the community fair begins, then sent home.
This removes their presence from the Napa Fair's daily animal interaction, disrupts the fair experience for youth and community, and pushes out kids who rely on these projects to participate.
What is at risk:
- Undermines Napa Expo's Mission Statement: "Napa County's premier agricultural, recreational and community gathering place.”
- Loss of a beloved tradition that gives Napa kids a chance to participate in the fair, often their first experience in agriculture and a stepping stone into other animals.
- Disproportionate impact on urban and low-income youth, who rely on these accessible projects to be part of 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA). Not everyone can afford Napa County land to raise large animals!
- Fewer learning opportunities and reduced participation in the fair for youth and their families.
- A step backward for community engagement, hands-on education, and awareness of agriculture and animal care.
- A missed chance to improve—not remove—a program with so much potential. With the right collaboration among leaders, parents, and volunteers, the barn could evolve into a safer, more inclusive, and welcoming space. Let’s not take away an opportunity for growth, learning, and leadership from the next generation. Let’s reimagine it—together.
- The format was changed to a "cage and carry" without community input. Agriculture and community members have expressed opposition through formal channels, including: written letters, public comment and phone calls. However, we have NOT seen action.
Please sign the petition asking the Napa Fair Board to reinstate the valuable youth small barn coop-in experience for the Napa Town and Country Fair.
Note: We understand and support a change of format for animals that are under an active health mandate.
