The Issue

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is a charitable organisation established in 1973, offering classes, exhibitions, and performances in Indian classical arts as well as global cultural activities for the community. It has been based in the West Kensington area of Hammersmith and Fulham since 1978.

Upcoming changes (due to be enforced in December 2025) to parking regulations in Hammersmith and Fulham's Controlled Parking Zone D will enforce restrictions from 8:30 AM to 10 PM, seven days a week, with a maximum stay of just one hour. This is a stark change from the current schedule, which enforces restrictions on parking from 9 AM to 5 PM on weekdays only without a maximum stay.

These new restrictions will greatly hinder access for our visitors, staff, teachers, and especially our students (many of whom carry large instruments) and audience members, many of whom travel long distances to participate. Most sessions and events last between 1.5 to 3 hours, making it nearly impossible for attendees to join under the new rules. This would have a significant impact on The Bhavan's operations and ongoing viability.

We urge the Council to reconsider these restrictions, particularly in the weekday evening and weekend daytime hours along the one-hour maximum stay.

Sign this petition to help ensure the continued success of cultural and educational activities at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan UK and its continued presence in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
