Below is an important message about the upcoming visit of Mashary Alafasy to our Markham, Ontario Muslim community. Please read it and share it if you agree. Assalamu alaikum dear brothers and sisters,

*Regarding the visitation of the famous Quran reciter Mishary Al-Afasy to Canada:*

Allah (SWT) made it an obligation upon us to always speak the truth, even if against our own selves. *Any event that hosts Mishary Al-Afasy should be boycotted due to the following*:

Mishary Al-Afasy has publicly:

1) Advocated for normalization with the Zionist apartheid regime in the name of “making peace with Jews.” The Gulf regimes are *not* at war with Israel to begin with, so there is no “truce” to be made. This is simply a cover for Zionist occupiers to continue their mass murder, imprisonment, and displacement of our Palestinian brothers and sisters, desecration of Masjid Al-Aqsa, and destroy any resistance that gets in the way. Muslims, Christians, Jews, and any decent human being who stand AGAINST this know the difference, which is why the anti-Zionist movement has supporters across all religions. Twisting this into religious reconciliation is nothing but Zionist propaganda.

2) Performed at an official state function for the Egyptian dictator Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the orchestrator of the 2013 Rabaa Massacre in which over 900 civilians were slaughtered and incinerated, and publicly praised him. This is not a benign event, as it’s usual for dictators to bring celebrities to publicly perform for them in order to legitimize their rule in the eyes of the public.

3) Posed for a picture in a fighter jet in support of the Saudi-UAE bombing campaign of Yemen which has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of innocent Yemeni civilians.

4)The host organization "Al Mustafa Canada" was owned and operated by a zionist group named "Jerusalem Outreach Centre". They were recently purchased and rebranded as Al Mustafa Canada.

[Update - Apr 7] - Brother Lotfi was contacted by one of the previous Al Mustafa directors and they clarified that they were advised to buy this dormant charity when they moved to Canada. We have no evidence or reason to believe otherwise and will do حسن الظن (assume good intent on this matter)

5) Spending thousands of donors' money on celebrity sheikhs when others are in desperate need and local reciters who can lead the prayers are available is not acceptable.

*I will NOT be attending any event that hosts Mishary Al-Afasy for these reasons, and I encourage you all to do the same.* We ask Allah (SWT) to keep our hearts attached to Him, His Prophet SAW, and all the believers. May Allah keep our hearts united and for us to love each other for His sake, despite our disagreements and conflicts. May we always benefit each other with sincere advice for His pleasure. Ameen.

Lastly, I leave you with the words of Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him:

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud said, “How will you be when you are afflicted with trials that make the old grow senile and the young grow old, and the people change the Sunnah?” They said, “When will this be?” Ibn Mas’ud said, “ *It will be when you have many reciters but few people of understanding, many leaders but few of them trustworthy, and this world is sought at the expense of the Hereafter.*”
