New E.ON Tariff - Over £100 cheaper than January's predicted cap - Switch and save today*

New petition - Ban the loyalty tax on broadband contracts - Ofcom should set real price controls!

Hi everyone,

Hope you're having a good week. I have a couple of updates, lets start with this petition. I had a meeting with Ofcom a few weeks ago and they basically said they aren't going to do anything about banning mid-contract price rises for at least a year or two because of their recent changes to the regulations that come into effect in January (explanation video of that meeting here). I said I'd have a think about our next steps and here's my suggestion:

  • If we can't get this ban in place, then we should push for even clearer contracts than what they're implementing now. By this I mean we should ask that every contract, whether for broadband, mobile phone, TV package, or bundles, all of them should have a "Total Contract Cost" price stated on them. This would allow us to be able to properly compare the prices of different products and services in a clearer way. If you agree that we should push for this, please email me at Richard@TheRegulatorGuy.co.uk so I know. Also email me if you disagree, it's good to get an idea on how many think we should move on and how many people think we should just leave it.

Right, second point in this update is that I've started a new petition against Ofcom. Mid-contract price rises aren't my only gripe with the Telecoms industry, the ridiculous price increases at the end of a contract, and the necessity to argue with your current provider or switch away from them in order to get reasonable prices again is frustrating. I feel these are predatory pricing tactics designed to take advantage of the vulnerable. So, please give it a read, it's the second link above, and if you agree with the message then sign the petition and please please please share it on your socials, we need as many signatures on the new petition as we have on this one.

Final thing, the energy tariffs in the market are still much better than the price cap, so if you haven't had chance to switch yet, please hit that first link and do a price comparison on Uswitch, there is no benefit to you in paying more than you need to, that's just extra profit for the already-very-profitable energy suppliers.

Thanks everyone,

Richard Winstone

This commission helps fund the regulatory work that I do. The commission does NOT increase the price you pay for the services,  you'll see the same prices whether you go through the link above, through the price comparison site directly or if you go direct to the service provider.
