Stop Mark Henry's Appointment as Clinton County Legislature Chairman in 2026
The Issue
Freedom of speech and civil rights are cornerstones of our community. Mark Henry's current policies threaten these fundamental rights, which deeply concerns me as a resident of Clinton County, NY. His legislative track record is fraught with restrictive measures and lack of transparency, raising alarms about his suitability for the role of Clinton County Legislature Chairman in 2026.
One of the critical issues under Henry's leadership is his decision to ban the entire county from addressing the legislature on the Dog Tethering Law. This move stifles the voices of community members who wish to express their opinions and share their experiences, effectively silencing the public’s voice in important discussions.
In January, Mark Henry took it upon himself to amend the Legislative Rules of Order to prohibit posters in the legislature chambers. This amendment was made shortly after we, concerned citizens, brought posters depicting the harsh realities of chained dogs to a legislative meeting. Instead of addressing the issue, Henry chose to obstruct this form of peaceful protest.
Moreover, in March 2025, Mark Henry overstepped the state’s Open Meeting Laws. Such violations of transparency laws limit public oversight and deny citizens their right to participate in democratic processes fully.
The substantiation for these concerns lies in verifiable instances of Henry's actions which starkly contrast the values we hold dear in our community. One person should not wield such control over the democratic processes meant to serve and represent all of Clinton County's residents.
Let's unite in preserving the integrity of our governance systems. Urge the Clinton County legislature to appoint a candidate who respects civil rights, upholds transparency, and listens to the people they represent. Sign this petition to ensure that Mark Henry does not become the Chairman of the Clinton County Legislature in January of 2026. Please only sign this petition if you are a resident of Clinton County New York.
