THANK YOU! TOGETHER WE MADE A DIFFERENCE – LUCK STONE WITHDREW ITS QUARRY APPLICATION

I want to sincerely thank everyone who signed this petition, shared information, attended meetings, wrote emails, made phone calls, spoke at public hearings, asked questions, and encouraged neighbors to become involved.  Luck Stone has withdrawn its application for the proposed quarry, asphalt plant, and concrete plant on Verdon Road.

THIS DID NOT HAPPEN BECAUSE ONE PERSON SPOKE UP.  IT HAPPENED BECAUSE OUR COMMUNITY CAME TOGETHER.  AND….PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VALUES IN HANOVER AND THE SURROUNDING AREA JOINED US IN OUR EFFORT.

Over more than a year, citizens educated ourselves about groundwater, blasting, truck traffic, rail impacts, noise, wetlands, cemeteries, property values, and the long-term consequences of placing this type of heavy industrial operation in an agricultural community. We then took that information to our Planning Commissioners and Board of Supervisors.

They listened.

As the process moved forward, it became increasingly clear that there were serious unanswered questions and that the application did not have the support Luck Stone needed to move forward.  That is something every person who participated should be proud of.

But we also need to understand that this is a withdrawal, not necessarily the end of the proposal. Luck Stone has indicated that it intends to return.

For that reason, this Change.org petition and our community website (STOPNOELROCKQUARRY.COM) will remain active. We will continue to use them to share information and keep everyone connected. If Luck Stone resubmits this proposal—or files a new application involving this property—we will notify you as soon as we become aware of it.

And we will waste no time getting organized and opposing it again.

We already know the issues. We know where to look, what questions to ask, and how important it is to become involved early. If another application is filed, we will review it immediately, attend the meetings, contact our elected officials, and make sure the community is fully informed from the very beginning.  For now, we can CELEBRATE this important accomplishment and thank the Board Supervisors who listened to the concerns of their citizens.

WE ARE NOT GOING AWAY.

The greatest lesson from this experience is simple:  Citizen participation matters.

When neighbors work together, educate themselves, stay involved, and refuse to give up, they can make a difference.

Thank you to every single person who stood with us.

Together, we protected our community this time—and if Luck Stone returns, we will be ready from day one.
