Please write the DEC today!
Friends,
In our efforts to stop weekend hunting and bow hunting, we have been directing attention to the local Town Boards which control hunting on town lands.
We must write to the DEC, which controls hunting on other public land and is now proposing expanded deer killing throughout Suffolk County, Long Island. Postal letters can be sent to Bryan Swift (address below). Emails can be sent to WildlifeRegs@dec.ny.gov Comments can be brief. The most important thing to say is:
You OPPOSE the expansion of deer hunting as specified in Part 1, Sections 1.11 and 1.24 - Deer Hunting Seasons; Special Seasons for Deer of Either Sex in Suffolk County."
Reasons include a) killing of deer will be relentless; b) weekend hunting will prevent hikers and residents from enjoying the woods; c) bowhunting is especially cruel because it so often wounds deer and they die slow, painful deaths.
Thank you so much for caring!

Dear Mr. Swift,
As a homeowner and taxpayer in East Hampton, Long Island, [or, if you don't live in Suffolk County/Long Island: as a frequent visitor/renter/vacationer in eastern Long Island ] I am writing to express my opposition to any expansion of deer hunting as specified in "Part 1, Sections 1.11 and 1.24 - Deer Hunting Seasons; Special Seasons for Deer of Either Sex in Suffolk County".
An expanded hunting season, expansion of areas, expansion of killing methods would mean that the killing would be relentless, increasingly cruel (so many animals are maimed and die slow, painful deaths), and would endanger and prevent residents, visitors, guests, from hiking, walking on trails with pets, and simply enjoying the presence of wildlife.
I urge you to reconsider any ill-conceived plan to increase the slaughter of wildlife, and if a reduction in populations is needed, to seek only non-lethal methods, that would not jeopardize the public and especially our children and pets.
Thank you for considering my comments.
Sincerely,
