The Issue

As a lifelong supporter of Liverpool FC and someone deeply connected to the vibrant Cypriot community, I am heartbroken by the news of our beloved club's agreement with Turkish Airlines. This development is not just a simple business transaction—it's a symbolic endorsement of actions that have long stood against international norms and justice.

Since 1974, Turkey has occupied one-third of Cyprus, in blatant defiance of international law. For nearly half a century, this situation has persisted without resolution, bringing suffering and division to countless Cypriot families, many of whom are part of Liverpool FC’s extensive global fanbase.

Imagine, if you will, that Liverpool FC announced a sponsorship with a major Russian airline immediately after illegal actions in Ukraine. There would undoubtedly be an uproar, a collective call for justice. So why, then, is there silence when Turkey’s own historical transgressions are similarly brought to light?

This sponsorship does not align with the values of fairness and justice that Liverpool FC stands for. It taints our club's global image and alienates a significant portion of our fanbase who have lived the consequences of these international disputes. Moreover, continuing this partnership may inadvertently appear as an endorsement of international law violations.

Liverpool FC can choose to stand on the right side of history by reconsidering this partnership. As ardent fans, we ask the club to look beyond financial benefits and consider the moral implications of aligning with Turkish Airlines.

My request is simple: Liverpool FC should take a clear stand against sponsorship deals with entities representing countries involved in ongoing illegal occupations. Let our club be a beacon of integrity, not just on the field but also off it, by advocating for peace and justice through our partnerships.

Sign this petition to urge Liverpool FC to review and reconsider their sponsorship agreement with Turkish Airlines. Let’s safeguard the values we hold dear and ensure that our club's legacy does not become entangled with a history of international crimes. Together, we can make a difference.
