Stop Live Oak Landing; Roads first, development second

Stop Live Oak Landing; Roads first, development second
The Issue
ATTENTION: Leland, NC homeowners and residents living and traveling HWY 133, specifically between Mallory Creek drive and HWY 74/76.
This CHANGE.ORG petition was created to voice our concern and opposition to frivolous and unthoughtful high-density housing along HWY 133. HWY 133 is a historic roadway with roots dating back to 1916. It is a two-lane roadway without a breakdown shoulder on either side, poor to no lighting, few turn lanes, blind corners, congestion, and one stop light between Mallory Creek and HWY 74/76. The proposed high-density development, Live Oak Landing, would bring 300 apartments and 520-600 new vehicles to the already underdeveloped roadway. This would be located at or near 964 River Rd. SE.
The developer, Caviness and Caves, is hoping to purchase this land and petition the Town of Leland to annex the land and rezone it for high density residential. The rezone would be a direct conflict to the Brunswick County CAMA Core Land Use Plan adopted by Brunswick County on October 15, 2007. Additionally, the building methodology is a stark contrast to the home types to the north, south, and west of this proposed development. Please note: Charleston Common is zoned high density only due to having shared access stairways.
Thank you for your attention and please attend the next community meeting March 13, 2023, at 5:30pm. A new location may be announced soon as the previous location did not support the number of attendees. We need everyone's voice.
