The Issue

Am by names of Claire Brianz a transgender, ugandan by nationality, arepresentatives of LGBTIQ+ refugees and an asylum seekers living in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Turkana west County in kenya.

There is crisis in Kakuma Refugee Camp in kenya. Asylum-seekers are being brutalised, violently attacked, sexually assaulted, our shelters burned down. We sleep sleeping in fear, all our eyes are widely open in every night in order to have warming to run and not to be attacked, burnt alive, beaten, manslaughtered attacked or sexually assaulted.

The prepertrators of these human rights violations live with us in the same camp and are our fellow refugees from other different African countries especially those from southern Sudan, Somalia and Burundi. Homophobia and transphobia drive them.

UNHCR which is mandated to protect us has not done it's job and instead it refers us to the Kenyan government that it has to protect us through police and police is also on the side of the haters/discriminators

It's well known that to be mandated and to be given refugee statuses(recognized as a refugee) takes six months but it's now five to seven years holding asylum seeker passes.

I can't forget on June 19,2020 when the the worst attack happened from the non LGBT Refugee, On that fateful day, many sustained broken limbs, were cut with machetes and upto date our skulls cracked. We have led this efforts and advocacy for the the treatment in the private hospital because in UNHCR hospitals the only treatment we get is that of normal sickness like malaria and typhoid but injuries and attacks we're rejected and denied treatment and it lead to the death of our fellows because the doctor's carelessness, it has been a tag of war to advocate for safety, treatment, food because starvation is also driving us crazy, we're discriminated starting from the UNHCR hospitals, doctors, police because all are from the host community and they say that we spoiled their children, their cultures.

We have no works, we can't work, we can't study, we can't do anything due to our gender identities and we're hated

We have witnessed death of our fellows in the previous years we have lost more than five comrades and we don't want to see that happening again, that is why we seek for support of advocacy and and solution in each and every corner that can help us in anyway.

When attacks happened we face hard times like in getting first aids because of the high bleeding basing on the way how our fellow(s) has be attacked before taking him/her to the private clinic for further/proper treatments.

We have done each and everything to advocacy and amplify our voices but still we're being forced to keep a low profile and to angage ourselves in community services, we have tried to integrate with the people in community but it has remained the same because people of the community are not interested in integrating with us, they see us as cursed people, children of the devil but we deserve a better life.

We left our mother countries seeking for asylum and protection but this has led us to regret why we left our countries because what we face here is more worse than that of where we ran from, but we can't go back to home countries because we're being hanted and we're known by the home communities, one of our member tried to go back but emmediately reaching there he got killed.

Transgenders are hit hardest due to their gender and are always attacked, lesbians are raped, gays are arrested and tortured, many are undressed in public to confirm our genders, it's too much.
