Stop LAUSD from blocking Spotify

Stop LAUSD from blocking Spotify
The Issue
By: Asa Sosenko NOT THE AI
Music has always been a big part of my life, and a part of so many of my peers and friends lives too. I listen to classical music to focus when I study. I listen to music when I do homework. Music has also helped me navigate difficult times, like when my dog died.
LAUSD had the bright idea to block Spotify to improve student productivity. But, I think this ban has the opposite effect. Kids like me get more done with music; research has shown music can reduce stress and anxiety and help students focus. If LAUSD wants to teach a generation that succeeds, they should be given the tools to succeed. Numerous studies have been done to prove that music is better, not worse, for student engagement.
Oh, LAUSD says, but what about inappropriate music? We all know that the district is capable of specific content filtering, so why are they trying to take away the resource so many of us rely on? Students are far less productive and engaged without music. If LAUSD's current filtering tools don't work, why not identify a better way to filter, rather than blocking all music.
Without music, the vibe at the school is off--kids seem more withdrawn and less enthusiastic.
I urge LAUSD to reconsider its decision and unblock Spotify, making it accessible for students who depend on music as a tool for learning and focus. Please sign this petition to show your support and help us bring back an invaluable resource that enhances our school, our education, and our lives.
