Hi All,
Katherine Birbalsingh (headteacher at Michaela Community School in Wembley, London) and Michelle (a mother who homeschools her child) are leading a March for Children in London on Sunday 18 May, going from Whitehall to Marble Arch.
This march urges the Government to prioritise what is truly in the interest of children. This means ALL children -- including children in independent schools.
This includes:
- Banning smartphones in schools for Under 16s. The harms of social media in young people are clear. Don't leave it to parents and individual schools to navigate.
- Giving parents more choice of schools. Government proposals could see a reduction in places in successful schools, forcing children into schools that may not meet their needs.
- Letting school leaders run their schools. This means letting schools set up working conditions (including the length of school day and holidays) that best meet local needs. Not a one-size-fits-all approach.
- Ending school fee VAT. State schools have seen growing demand from children forced out of their independent schools, and state schools are struggling to accommodate them.
Please join us at Whitehall on Sunday 18 May and show your support! It's time for parents to come together and urge this Government to put children first.
You can find more information about the march on the page below. Take a look and register if you're able to come (this helps with planning)!

See you there!
