Before I tell you about the rallies - can you please take a moment to sign this petition for a National Royal Commission into Family Violence.

More on that in a moment.

Two weeks ago, tens of thousands of Australians joined marches and rallies across the country for an end to violence against women.

On the Gold Coast, a number of speakers (including myself) shared our deeply personal stories and called for more action and funding on prevention and safety.

Following the marches, the Queensland Premier Steven Miles (who walked with the march in Brisbane) listened to our calls and was quick to act - announcing a $36 million funding boost to DFSV service providers across the state to meet increasing demand.

But many service providers felt the Federal Government's response - the announcement of an extension of a Morrison government funding program - showed that much more work is needed for our government and our society to understand the extent of violence against women in this country.

That's why an e-petition has been started - to push for a National Royal Commission - in conjunction with calls for immediate stronger action on prevention, support services and bail laws.

A Royal Commission will get more media coverage, uncover the failures, and make recommendations for change.

These e-petitions are different to this Change petition -  because they go direct to the Federal Parliament, and only open for 30 days.

That means we have 26 days to get as many signatures as possible on it.

Please join me in signing it here: https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN6193
