Eight dingoes have been killed, before the autopsy results came back yesterday.  Execution without proof.  Two more are being hunted down despite no evidence that killing solves anything.  It doesn't remove attractants nor does it prevent replacement animals from moving in.  https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03-07/what-we-know-about-kgari-fraser-island-dingoes-qld/106261032

The coroner's report says Piper James was attacked by Dingoes, who chased and pushed her into the water on purpose, or Piper James ran into the water to escape the dingoes.  Here is why I don't believe this.  It is cognitively very complicated to figure out the water is a tool, a weapon, and how to maneuver a person into the water, while the dingoes try not to drown themselves.  There is evidence they do exactly this with small prey, which means dingoes are complex tool users and should be considered legal persons.  Notice I said Small Prey.  Humans are not part of a dingo diet. Humans are too large and do not move like wallabies or kangaroos.  Dingoes are opportunist eaters, and had been eating garbage and poisoned rodents.  They wouldn't bother eating a human.

The problem here with the autopsy results are twofold.  One is the Dunbar scale.  A Dunbar 6 can either mean a fatal bite, or it can mean scavenging a deceased person.  So a report would have said Dunbar 6, since Piper James was found deceased with bites.  Also, an Irikangi Jellyfish sting does look a lot like a dingo bite if scratched at, and the venom doesn't show up reliably on an autopsy.  What is most likely is that Piper James was stung by a jellyfish, and the dingoes went in the water to try to save her.
