I have always had a profound love for all animals. Their innocence and vulnerability speak to me on a level that I cannot ignore. When I see an animal in distress, I feel an overwhelming urge to reach out and do whatever it takes to alleviate their suffering. This is why I am compelled to speak out against the invasive medical research being conducted at York University that causes immense pain and distress to innocent creatures.

York University is currently using 9 rhesus macaques along with several smaller animals in research experiments that involve incredibly invasive procedures. These animals are subjected to cranial implants, forced to wear restraint collars, and experience intense psychological and physical suffering due to social isolation and water deprivation. Such practices are not only inhumane but also ethically questionable.

Invasive experiments like these raise severe ethical concerns. It's been proven that animals subjected to such stressful conditions can experience significant stress and trauma, which likely skews research results. Reputable sources across the globe, including the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection, have consistently advocated for the replacement of animal testing with non-animal research methodologies, which are more humane and often more scientifically effective. Techniques such as micro-dosing, in vitro testing, and computer modeling can replace archaic and cruel methods currently employed.

It is important to recognize the rights of all living beings, including animals, to live free from unnecessary pain and suffering. The fact that advanced humane alternatives exist makes it unconscionable to continue using live animals for such experiments.

We must demand change at York University and advocate for the release of these animals into sanctuaries where they can live out their lives peacefully.
