This decision invades our privacy to the maximum extent possible and causes significant distress among students. Many of us, particularly female students, feel exposed and vulnerable in a space where privacy should be paramount.

The installation of these cameras overlooks critical safety considerations that affect all students. For instance, while there are floor-to-ceiling stall doors equipped with a help button, emergencies can occur suddenly. If a student faints or suffers a medical issue and cannot reach the button, their safety is in jeopardy. Ironically, these measures meant to protect may actually hinder an effective emergency response.

Moreover, the presence of cameras raises significant concerns about who can access the footage and under what circumstances. The possibility that male teachers and staff could review this footage or enter the bathrooms at any time adds to the discomfort and anxiety. These concerns are not unfounded; privacy in schools is a recognized right, and current policies should ensure that all students feel safe and secure.

There's also concern for family members who may one day attend this school and face the same invasion of privacy. As a sister and a student, I strongly oppose subjecting them, or any student, to this invasive practice. Instead, let’s explore effective and non-intrusive security solutions that respect student privacy while keeping everyone safe.

We urge the administration to reevaluate this decision immediately and consider safer and more respectful alternatives. Solutions like motion sensors, better staff training, peer patrols, or panic buttons in more accessible locations could provide safety without breaching privacy. Another option is enhancing security and supervision outside the bathrooms, which addresses the main issues without violating personal space.
