Arkansas is "The Natural State" and with low 6 -8 mph wind speeds, Arkansas is one of 5 states with no industrial wind turbines. Let's Keep it that way!
Forty years ago, turbines were placed in flat, open unpopulated areas averaging one person per per square mile. Due to the cost of running transmission lines to the substations, wind companies are encroaching on communities. Carroll County's population is 45 people per square mile and neighbors do not want their peaceful landscape littered with 698' tall industrial wind turbines. This simply is not a good fit for Carroll County.
We have been educating the public since February 2023 and have made great progress.
People are beginning to realize these industrial factories should not be placed in neighborhoods and are a source of pollution:
Noise pollution: Ambient county living averages 22-30 dBA. Turbines can be up to 90 dBA
Light pollution: Our area is close to a designated, "dark sky region". With 500 red flashing lights seen from 20+ miles away, the tranquility is lost.
Aviation pollution: General aviation pilots will have to choose dodging turbines 13 miles from the two local airports or flying to another airport. Our ridge top is also a designated military training zone for C-130s and helicopters for the last 20 years, they may also have to change course
Water pollution: With the amount of drilling, blasting and vibrations, the chances of piercing, disrupting or diverting our natural springs or collapsing wells is high. Sediment runoff may damage streams that flow into cattle ponds and larger bodies of water.
Scenic pollution: We have polled bikers and tourists and overwhelming response of, "please don't ruin this beautiful area" and "we may not return, if looking at turbines".
