Stop Industrial Solar Projects in Buckingham County, Virginia

Stop Industrial Solar Projects in Buckingham County, Virginia
The Issue
I am a resident of Buckingham County, Virginia, a place that has recently seen the approval of multiple industrial-sized Special Use Permits for solar projects. These decisions were made despite strong opposition from the public. Our voices and concerns seem to have been ignored in favor of these developments.
Buckingham County is known for its natural beauty, farmland and rural charm - qualities that are now at risk due to these large-scale solar projects. Not only do they disrupt our landscape, but they also pose potential risks to local wildlife habitats, water quality and agricultural lands.
According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), while solar energy is an important part of our renewable energy future, it should not come at the expense of local communities or ecosystems. The NREL recommends careful site selection for large-scale solar installations to avoid or minimize environmental impacts.
We believe that there are alternative solutions to generate revenue in the county.
We call on our county officials to reconsider their decisions and halt further approvals until proper assessments have been conducted and public opinion has been taken into account. It's time we prioritize preserving Buckingham County's unique character over industrial development. Please sign this petition if you agree.
