As an REI members and customers, we call on our Board and management to stop taking unfair and illegal tactics to block staff’s effort to unionize. We trust the people in green vests and know they work hard to help us get the right gear for our best outdoor adventures. They make our shopping experience and deserve respect. 

There are now 80 complaints outstanding at the National Labor Relations Board against REI management for bad faith bargaining practices and anti-union retaliatory actions against workers, such as firings, changes to work schedules, and disciplinary practices (see OurREI.com). Now there are reports that REI is planning on withholding annual merit raises for all employees at union stores.

As members and customers we are horrified that REI management would do this. This is not the Co-op we joined.

We call on REI management to drop its union busting law firm.  Negotiate in good faith with employee union organizers. Stop employing unfair & illegal tactics aimed at blocking unionization efforts and cease all retribution against those advocating for their rights.

It is time for REI to return to its principles.
