De-escalation should always be prioritized over confrontation. According to the American Psychological Association, de-escalation tactics are effective in approximately 60-80% of cases, proving that alternative methods work in reducing tension and achieving safe resolutions.

Moreover, introducing accountability measures is paramount. A federal law should make it possible to prosecute agents who misuse their authority and engage in lethal and excessive force. Currently, too many cases of abuse remain unaddressed, leaving families devastated and communities distrusting of law enforcement.
