Stop Horse Abuse - Make Horse Protection Part of USEF Mission

Stop Horse Abuse - Make Horse Protection Part of USEF Mission
The Issue
Please sign my petition asking USEF to protect our horses from abuse! The United States Equestrian Federation oversees all competitions, including the Olympic disciplines, and therefore has the power to stop abusers.
Recently the abusive methods of Cesar Parra have been exposed through social media. This tragedy is double because Parra's cruel methods were no secret, and yet no action was ever taken against him, allowing him to reach the top of the sport and even representing the USA at the 2014 World Cup!
Currently the USEF limits itself to taking action against abusers in cases which happen on the showgrounds at rated competitions. This means abusive training at home is tacitly allowed. This must stop!
With the advent of Safesport, the abuse of children in any location will trigger career-ending sanctions in any sport, including equestrian. The USEF must be able step up and provide the same kind of protection for our horses.
As a member of the equestrian community I am ashamed that Parra was not stopped until now, and I fear that there is nothing to stop the next guy. So I made this petition to ask the USEF to make stopping cruelty to competition horses part of its mission, with jurisdiction reaching beyond the show grounds. Our beloved performance horses deserve protection.
The USEF represents horsemen across many disciplines, with a membership of 450,000 horsemen and women. There is no other organization better positioned to be able to end the abuse of our beloved horses.
Whether you are a concerned USEF member, or a spectator, or a horse lover, please join me in asking the USEF to make the protection of competition horses part of its mission, with a commitment to sanction horse abuse, regardless of where it happens.
