This photo was taken today at a Home Depot in northern Virginia. This species of barberry, botanical name Berberis thunbergii, is listed as invasive in 23 states — including Virginia, where this is being sold!

Not only is this barberry invading and destroying our forest ecosystems, scientific research has linked it to harboring the ticks that carry Lyme disease. Just one more reason that Home Depot needs to STOP selling this plant.
