Aloha Ohana,

Regarding our petition, I wanted to address the use of the following terms and how people use these terms out of context or to discourage and gaslight others into thinking that healthy discourse, debate, and discovery are somehow the same thing.  They are not.

Definitions of Misinformation & Disinformation:

Misinformation is incorrect or misleading information. It is differentiated from disinformation, which is deliberately deceptive. Rumors are information not attributed to any particular source, and so are unreliable and often unverified, but can turn out to be either true or false.

Definition of Discourse:

written or spoken communication or debate.
"the language of political discourse"

speak or write authoritatively about a topic.
"she could discourse at great length on the history of Europe"

An example of discourse is when you discuss something with your friends in person or over a chat platform. Discourse can also be when someone expresses their ideas on a particular subject in a formal and orderly way, either verbally or in writing.

Misinformation can be incorrect information during the process of discovery, and it can be corrected.  It is a process of discourse, and it also happens during times of discovery and research.

When information is provided in its complete and full context, transparent, and with very little room for question, misinformation (incorrect) is greatly reduced.

Be weary of individuals who accuse others of misinformation (misleading), just because your concern, opinions, questions and beliefs do not align with theirs.  This is all too common today.

Regarding disinformation - it could be argued that a lack of crucial information, a degree of word-smithing and vague language around serious matters could be seen as purposeful - and a good starting point for further discourse.

Integrity is valuable.

Mahalo Nui.
