Stop High-Rise Towers Overshadowing Residential Buildings in Moorabbin & Bayside

The issue

As residents of Bayside and the City of Kingston, we are facing a troubling future.

A proposed 15-level office building on South Road, Moorabbin, adjacent to the northern boundary of our residential apartment building, threatens to tower over our homes and overpower our residential environment.

The example photo shows the first proposed tower on South Road, overshadowing the 9-storey, 17 Taylor Street "Moor Apartments" building.

This first of more to follow, this colossal structure, if approved, will not only obstruct our sunlight, undermining our usage of solar power but also disturbingly encroach on privacy.

We acknowledge that although development is key for progress and urban growth, constructing high-rise structures without considering the effect on surrounding residents is against the state government’s own residential development objectives and environmental policy.

It undermines a community's serene, suburban character, replacing it with an overpowering urban shadow. Furthermore, overshadowing our solar power systems directly conflicts with Australia's renewable energy targets.

The precedent this development would set is a daunting indication of what might become a reality in all our communities should this trend in urban planning policy persist. Hence this petition is not just for the residents of Bayside and Kingston, but for anyone who values the preservation and respectful development of residential communities throughout our state.

We call upon our community members, relevant stakeholders, and the responsible authorities to closely consider the proposal for high rise towers, bearing in mind the impacts stated.

Reject the plan for high-rise buildings that will overshadow our homes and take away our privacy. Stand with us as we strive to protect our residential environment.
