One Angry Voice for Everyone
I am just one mother. But my voice is the voice of every parent who sat helpless in an ER, every patient stonewalled by ACC, and every family trapped in this broken system.
I am just one voice, but I am boiling with fury. I knocked on every single door, only to be met with absolute indifference, walls of silence, and polite, empty “sorries.”
To be completely honest: when this system pushed me to the absolute edge, I finally understood how people can be driven to a state of pure rage.
I am speaking up because we are no longer willing to stay silent.
We are done playing by rules designed to protect the system while destroying our health.
Why I post this petition:
I am launching this petition because my own family hit the wall of New Zealand's rotten "healthcare" and ACC system.
When my 21-year-old daughter suffered an acute medical emergency, we sat in the ER for 5 to 6 hours while she was pumped full of painkillers (including morphine). The doctor smugly dismissed it, but an ultrasound hours later proved it was acute appendicitis.
Then, upon discharge, the hospital made a severe prescription error: on a stomach tortured by starvation, they prescribed a heavy-horse dose of ibuprofen (1200mg/day). The hospital officially admitted their technical error in writing and apologized. But because of their own 4-month waiting list for a gastroscopy, by the time she was scoped, her severe chemical burns (gastritis) had naturally healed.
How did ACC react? Under New Zealand law, citizens are legally barred from suing medical providers for malpractice. We are forced to rely solely on ACC. Yet ACC joyfully rejected our Treatment Injury Claim using classic bureaucratic wordplay: claiming that because the injury had naturally healed during the health system's own 4-month waiting list, “there is no acute visual proof, only lingering symptoms.” They weaponized system-wide delays to dismiss medical malpractice as a mere "symptom." We pay mandatory ACC levies out of our earnings, yet we are legally trapped, bouncing between agencies, and left with zero right to fair compensation or justice when the system ruins our health.
Why this petition matters
An Engineered Crisis & Political Cowardice:
Today, media outlets are full of reports about hospital emergency departments declaring states of emergency, with patients literally dying in waiting rooms. Why is no politician talking about this? When healthcare workers held emergency crisis meetings, why did the Minister of Health completely ignore them? Is it too inconvenient to answer hard questions?
Officials engineered this crisis through stealth recruitment freezes and bureaucratic red tape, choking our hospitals of essential staff. How much longer are we expected to sit quietly on our hands, accepting useless, polite apologies while administrators and ministers collect massive, undeserved salaries? It is time to call out every manager, director, and minister who forced these staff cuts and provoked today's collapse!
Even hospital doctors themselves tell patients off the record: "Please, complain! Raise hell! Launch petitions! That is the ONLY way anything will ever change here—our hands are tied from above." When frontline medical staff are begging patients to push back against their own system, you know the foundation is completely rotten.
Look at what politicians are feeding us right now:
ACT leader David Seymour publicly states that he "refuses to believe New Zealand has become twice as sick in the last 10 years" and targets health and disability benefits, suggesting the surge in people unable to work is just a byproduct of flawed government policies rather than a real health crisis. Of course people aren't "sick" on their sanitized spreadsheets—they are just slowly collapsing on multi-month waitlists because the system refuses to treat them! Stop gaslighting the public and dismissing the wreckage of our hospitals! Meanwhile, other parties promise "more money for health." How wonderful! But where will those millions actually go? Straight into another round of six-figure payrises for high-level managers, while emergency rooms overflow?
A Silent National Tragedy & The Sickening Double Standard:
Our story is just one example. How many cancer diagnoses are missed, how many heart attacks occur in overcrowded waiting rooms, and how many people end up permanently disabled while trapped on multi-month waitlists? For a cold-hearted bureaucracy, a patient who deteriorates or dies on a waitlist isn't a failure—it's just another cost erased from their ledger.
Look at the sickening double standard: if an ordinary citizen makes a split-second mistake behind the wheel of a car that causes harm, they face police investigation, criminal charges, and potential imprisonment for dangerous driving or manslaughter. Yet when high-ranking Health NZ executives and agency directors make deliberate policy decisions—freezing frontline staff hiring and forcing patients onto lethal waitlists—they face zero consequences. An ordinary person gets a criminal record for a momentary error; a health bureaucrat gets a $900,000 salary and a corporate shield for systemic negligence.
Keep your insultingly polite 'apologies'—we don't want your useless words! We demand that administrative neglect, deliberate waitlist delays, and intentional frontline hiring freezes leading to permanent injury or death be legally prosecuted as Gross Negligence and Manslaughter.
We demand these 5 QUESTIONS be put to the two main candidates at the October 14 Debate:
On October 14, the political leaders will exchange polished soundbites on tax cuts and inflation. We demand that debate moderators force them to answer the questions they systematically ignore:
1. On Accountability for Hospital Crises & Political Silence:
Why are ministers ignoring health workers' crisis meetings while emergency rooms overflow? Who will be held personally and administratively accountable for restricting frontline staff hiring, and when will administrators stop hiding behind polite apologies while drawing huge salaries for ruining public care?
2. On "Skin in the Game" for Bureaucrats:
Will you commit to banning high-level health bureaucrats and agency executives from buying private healthcare for themselves and their close families? If the public health system they run isn't good enough for their families, why should taxpayers fund their massive salaries and bonuses?
3. On Restoring Doctors as Healers, Not Gatekeepers:
When will we stop forcing General Practitioners (GPs) to act as corporate gatekeepers whose primary job is to shield a broken budget by rationing care, counting dollars, and blocking referrals? When will politicians unhandcuff our GPs, strip away the 15-minute administrative questionnaire limits, and allow doctors to be real healers who investigate root causes and treat patients first?
4. Where is the Money, Dudes?
New Zealanders pay four times over—through taxes, GST, mandatory ACC levies, and out-of-pocket costs for un-subsidized care. Who told you that everyday New Zealanders ever agreed to pay you massive, six-figure salaries out of our hard-earned tax dollars for such utterly incompetent, non-existent management? Where is our money actually going if emergency rooms are overflowing and frontline doctors are begging patients to complain just to get basic resources? Are taxpayers funding inflated executive wages for 'good' management, or are we literally paying you to collapse our Health (already NON) Care System?
5. On ACC, Public System Delays & Medical Errors:
How can you justify a broken system where citizens are legally stripped of the right to sue for medical negligence, while the public health system and ACC operate as a tag-team trap—where multi-month hospital waitlists are weaponized to erase evidence, allow acute injuries to heal into "mere symptoms," and deny claims? Will you mandate that the "Treatment Injury" framework be properly renamed and reformed to explicitly cover Medical Error and Medical Negligence, stopping both Health NZ and ACC from playing semantics and using systemic delays to dodge accountability even when errors are admitted in writing?
Our Demands for Systemic Change:
Unchain GPs & Dismantle Gatekeeping:
Transform primary care from a cost-containment barrier into root-cause medicine. Stop turning GPs into budget managers and let them practice thorough, patient-first care without arbitrary time and referral limits.
No Private Care Shield for Executives AND THEIR CLOSE FAMILIES:
Force agency managers and politicians to use the same public health system everyday citizens rely on.
Performance Accountability, Salary Clawbacks & Criminal Liability:
Overhaul executive compensation. Implement an annual public performance audit. If executives fail—causing hospital collapses or waitlist bloat—automatically slash their salaries to minimum wage with full bonus clawbacks. Furthermore, amend legislation so that deliberate administrative neglect causing death or permanent injury is prosecuted as Gross Negligence and Manslaughter.
Reform ACC & Healthcare System Accountability:
Stop the system from redefining actual injuries as "symptoms" to dodge payouts. Rename and restructure "Treatment Injury" to explicitly include Medical Error and Negligence—or restore the legal right of citizens to sue negligent providers directly!
Sign this petition to demand:
1. Real, forced answers from the political candidates on stage this October 14.
2. Jail time and stripped salaries for failing executives: No more corporate shields or "polite" apologies. If you take a $900k salary and wreck the system, you face criminal negligence and lose everything.
3. Unchain our GPs right now: Stop forcing doctors to act as budget-guarding cashiers who brush off patients with paracetamol. Let them investigate root causes and treat us!
Ministers and debate moderators — go ahead, be brave, sign too!
Note to Media & Supporters:
This petition is published under a pseudonym to protect the privacy and recovery of my 21-year-old daughter. However, I am ready to go all the way and possess full, documented proof of the hospital's written apology, delayed gastroscopy, and official ACC rejections. Verified journalists may contact me confidentially.
