I am personally deeply concerned by Google willing to change the Gulf of Mexico into the Gulf of America. To me, it seems unnecessary and misguided. A name does not simply signify what we call a geographical feature, it is a piece of history and culture intertwined with global recognition.

The Gulf of Mexico, recognized by this name internationally, has been a significant feature since before the United States existed as a country. Changing its name does not promote progress or betterment; it only serves to negate the heritage and worldwide recognition of this global landmark. Our focus should be on conserving our natural resources, not on shifting symbolisms in the vain hope of national glorification.

It is our duty as responsible citizens to preserve our natural heritage and to respect their internationally recognized names. The Gulf of Mexico belongs to the people of the world, not just one country. Stand together with me against such needless change.
