I am writing this petition on behalf of the residents of Mineral County, WV, who are facing an unexpected and unjustified increase in water and sewer rates by the Frankfort Public Service District (FPSD). Recently, we were notified of another rate hike, yet no reason or explanation has been given for this substantial increase. This is particularly concerning because we just experienced a rate increase in July of 2024, adding to the financial burden on our community.

These services are essential to the daily lives of residents, and repeated increases without just cause or transparency raise questions of accountability and trust. Many families and individuals in Mineral County live on fixed incomes and cannot afford such significant increases, especially without a reasonable explanation.  The only Public meeting scheduled is November 12 at 6:30pm at the PSD office on Plum Run Rd, with limited seating and very limited parking.

It is crucial that the FPSD operates with transparency and responsibility. Before raising the water and sewer rates, the FPSD needs to conduct a thorough and public review demonstrating why such increases are necessary. We, the residents, deserve to know where our money is going and how the additional funds will benefit us and improve the service quality.  Multiple Public Meetings need to be held at locations throughout Frankfort District that can accommodate more than just a few attendees.

We call upon the leadership of the Frankfort Public Service District to hold public consultations, provide detailed financial reports, and explore alternative solutions that do not involve further rate increases. It's critical that the FPSD considers modern advancements and techniques in water management that might reduce operational costs without passing the burden onto residents.

Please join me in demanding accountability and transparency from the Frankfort Public Service District. Sign this petition to urge FPSD officials to halt the proposed rate hikes until these steps are taken, ensuring that our voices are heard and our concerns are addressed. Together, we can advocate for a fair and transparent process that respects the needs of every individual in our community. Sign now to protect our vital water and sewer services from unwarranted financial strain.
