Dear Supporters,
A pharmacy friend recently shared this quote by Edward Everett, "I am only one. But still, I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do."
When we look at the mess that pharmacy is in today, we feel overwhelmed, but I personally refuse to give up hope. How can I ever give up hope on improving a system that my child's life and so many others' lives rely on every 12 hours? We need more people to take action and get involved even in the slightest way.
I'm planning to attend the Board of Pharmacy Meeting in Missouri on October 19th, 2023 at 9:30 AM. This is where Express Scripts mail order pharmacy is headquartered. Express Scripts is known for heavily forcing or steering patients to their mail order pharmacy. The board meeting will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott Columbia, 3301 Lemone Industrial Blvd. Columbia, MO 65201. Can you join me virtually or in person? The link hasn't been provided for the virtual option yet, but I will provide it when posted.
Please feel free to start attending your own State Board of Pharmacy meetings. Some are held online and can be attended virtually.
Some of the recent comments this past week of patients forced to mail order pharmacy include multiple children hospitalized due to delays after being forced away from their local pharmacy to a mail order pharmacy. Adult patients are also being hospitalized due to delays. One healthcare professional states that his patient has been hospitalized three times since being forced to mail order.
Some states, like Arizona, are still extremely hot as most medications are shipped unsafely during shipping. Patients are still not being protected or warned that their life is at risk.
These are some of the worst forms of patient abuse and neglect happening across our nation today. Mail order pharmacy could be a choice but should never be forced as the only option of coverage.
If you can attend or if you decide to be more active with your State Board of Pharmacy, I want to hear about it and support you. Please email me loretta@uniteforsafemeds.com
