Yearly, since the start of this petition, the holidays have been hard, knowing that so many will be left without lifesaving medications as they are forced to a 1-star rated mail order pharmacy owned by the insurance company. Medications are not prioritized over Christmas presents.
If you look at Express Scripts' home page, you will see a notice highlighted across the top. It's alerting patients that "Orders may be delayed due to high holiday shipping demand."
I would argue that the primary reason for delays is the fault of pharmacy benefit managers such as Express Scripts which has taken away the option of coverage to our local pharmacies. If patients were able to use their local pharmacies in their coverage, they would be able to get their medications the same day or even delivered safely in a temperature-controlled vehicle by their local pharmacy. The mail order pharmacies mostly use USPS, UPS, and FED ex for their deliveries. The trucks are not temperature controlled as most medications are stored unsafely in bags.
During these delays and slower processing times, most medications will not be stored at the correct temperatures as the FDA And State Board of Pharmacy fail to regulate.
