Hi Everyone,
I know some may be tired of hearing our story of how this petition started and how I believe my son's life was risked by mail order pharmacy. I'll put my original story at the end.
Delays is only 1 of the 127 reasons that I have as far as why mail order pharmacy causes patients to risk their lives and doesn't always save money.
Today's story belongs to Danielle. Like my son, she is an organ transplant survivor. Her life depends on medications every 12 hours.
She was only allowed to use mail order pharmacy for coverage. She called in her medication over a week in advance. She was told the day that she would receive it on and was told she would have it by 4.
She waited by the door as much as possible that day. Her medicine never arrived. She panicked. She called the mail order pharmacy. They stated they didn't have a record of her first call where she requested the prescription.
She runs out of her medications. She doesn't know what to do. She reaches out to an online support group. Many tell her to, "Go to the ER." Others told her that the same issue of medication not being delivered and running out happened to them.
She calls her local pharmacy. She found out that she could get the medications out of pocket, without using her insurance for $62. Her copayment with insurance for the same medication was $180. Many people with high deductible or high copay plans figure this out.
Next, Danielle made a risky decision that I'm not advising others to take. Outside of her transplant, She was overall healthy and her monthly insurance payment along with the copay, she was paying $1,000 per month for her health insurance that wouldn't even allow for her to get her medications the safest way. Her medications are her life. She decided to drop her coverage.
This is sad. This is unethical. We shouldn't have to risk our lives or go without our employer-sponsored coverage because it is risking our lives.
We must fix this. This doesn't make sense.
Please share this story & encourage others to support this petition.
