Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving. We wanted to make sure that we say thank you to every single supporter of this petition. We also want to say thank to the family of our hero, who donated their organ at the worst of times, so Wesley could be here with us today. We think of them every day. We will fight not only for our son but also for the life that lives on inside of him. We will fight for every patient across our nation, but none of this would be possible without you and your support.
Hopefully one day everyone will at least have the option of coverage to keep the face to face relationship with the pharmacist that some have known for years.
Additionally, we need improved set guidelines on temperatures. We have to make sure that children's room temperature liquid medications are not just being shipped in plastic bags on the hottest and freezing days. Same goes for adult medications. We have to set limits as mailboxes are known to reach up to a hundred and fifty degrees and the delivery trucks can reach up to a hundred and seventy degrees. Freezing can also affect potency. North Dakota can get in temperatures as low as -40 in the winter.
Although some refrigerated medications are shipped in coolers with ice packs, many room temperature medications like delicate children's liquid oral medications are being shipped in plastic bags all year round.
How long are medications good for in these conditions? 24 hours 48 hours two weeks? Even the wording of short time periods can be dangerous. As each medication is different in its composure and stability. We need answers in appropriate delivery and handling of our medications. Each medication should be treated accordingly to the manufacturer's guidelines on what is proven safe.
Also, it is important for regulations to set these limits and enforce the law on the limits. Then, make those who are not adhering to the law accountable.
Thank you again & I hope you have a wonderful day!
