I wanted to share this with you. It's sad that both delivery truck drivers and patients suffer due to the lack of temperature control. This article briefly discusses our issues on our petition as well as the issues on the other petitions for delivery drivers. The following is quoted from the pharmacist blog in the link.

"Most medications are suppose to be stored in a max of 85 F (degrees)… if a mail carrier died because of the heat in her mail truck.. what is happening to your medications?  The same medications that you buy/take to help you maintain your health.

The manufacturer, wholesaler & pharmacy are legally responsible to maintain medication within the mandatory storage range… but.. when a mail order pharmacy hands your heat sensitive medication off to a delivery service..  they no requirement to maintain those storage temperatures."

He sums up the reason why this common sense issue will be so difficult to fix by saying, "REMEMBER… health care is nothing but a FOR PROFIT BUSINESS"

My thoughts: We need to remind these insurance companies, delivery truck services, and government officials that their profits come from us. The people in congress and the senate who do not act to protect us from these companies are in their spot because of OUR vote.

Mail order pharmacy is risky and will be life-threatening for some because it isn't properly regulated. Also, patients should always have the option to keep the crucial face to face relationship once they have complex needs. I have a deep respect for independent pharmacist now. I hope you do too. 

Feel free to read the blog and share. Sign the petitions for the UPS, FedEx, and USPS drivers. Think about entering in a hot enclosed vehicle for even a couple of minutes. This is what the back of their trucks are like. As one UPS driver told me, it's so hot that he cannot breathe when he goes into the back. Many medications that should be stored at room temperatures are shipped only in bubble mailers.
