If you agree that patients should have the right to choose but not be forced onto mail order pharmacy, please share this!
This week, Wesley will have labs done. Sadly, his labs have been elevated outside of the normal range since they last delivered his medications without anything to protect them.
This past week, I called the specialty pharmacy. They actually suggest that Wesley's labs would be elevated if the medications were less potent. WELL, HIS LABS ARE ELEVATED OUT SIDE OF NORMAL RANGE SINCE THEY DELIVERED HIS MEDS IN ONLY A BUBBLE MAILER IN THE HOT HEAT.
This makes me so angry and sad. Do they not understand that they should not wait until a transplant patients labs are out of range before they start protecting medications from the high heat/freezing as they ship his medicines in only bubble mailer? Also, a face to face relationship with a pharmacist is crucial when someone has complex needs.
DO THEY NOT UNDERSTAND THAT ONCE A PATIENT GOES INTO TRANSPLANT REJECTION, THERE MAY NEVER BE A SECOND CHANCE TO DO IT RIGHT? ONE EPISODE OF REJECTION DUE TO MISHANDLED MEDICATIONS CAN BE A TRANSPLANT PATIENTS LIFE.
Wesley's medications that were delivered in high heat does not show they would have been safe at the temperatures shipped in. Nor, are they safe in temperatures below 59 degrees or freezing. I was told they would wrap in "extra bubble wrap" during the freezing temperatures. "UNACCEPTABLE." I say, just let me pick it up the safest way, from the pharmacy at which it is filled.
This is why we thank you so much for your support. This is a life or death situation, not just for my son. This is a life or death situation for many and patients, nor their doctors may even know that they are at risk. We should not be forced to be their test subjects.
