Stop Forced Worship Actions in Video Games

Stop Forced Worship Actions in Video Games
The Issue
I’ve been playing video games my whole life, and I don’t plan to stop anytime soon. However, I’ve recently become uncomfortable with the increasing number of games that include worship or prayer actions — often forcing players to perform them as part of quests, dialogue choices, or progression systems.
As a Muslim player, I find this trend deeply concerning. It feels disrespectful and insensitive toward players who follow real religions, especially when the acts of worship are directed toward fictional gods or deities. Whether intentional or not, this can alienate and offend people of faith.
There is no real need for a game to include acts of worship or prayer to imaginary gods as a required mechanic for story progression, character upgrades, or in-game rewards. Games should be fun with their beautiful world and stories without compelling players to perform such actions.
This petition focuses on two examples — though they are not the only ones doing this:
Genshin Impact (HoYoverse): Players must “worship” statues to receive rewards and level up regional progress.
Wuthering Waves (Kuro Games): Players are required to perform repeated acts of prayer to a fictional deity to advance the main story and unlock essential gameplay features, such as maps and character materials.
I call on developers to be more considerate of players’ beliefs and to avoid making acts of worship or prayer in their games. Let all players enjoy gaming without feeling disrespected or excluded.
