Stop Forced Integration of A.I

Stop Forced Integration of A.I
The Issue
College students, writers, and artists are at the mercy of A.I’s rapidly growing industry.
While A.I is a can of worms that can’t be unopened it can and should be regulated in order to protect citizens from its harmful effects.
There’s countless videos online of college students crying because they’ve been accused of using Chat GPT to write essays. Despite their claims of innocence many have to face consequences anyway. The insinuation that humans aren’t intelligent enough to write an eloquent essay and must be using A.I is insulting. When in fact A.I uses the past work of humans to become more able to “help” humans to write.
Artificial intelligence is inescapable in all aspects of online life. Search engines are now using A.I instead of human written articles. Microsoft uses Co-pilot, Google docs uses Gemini. In the past, google searches would provide internet articles and websites to help answer questions. Now the first thing that pops up is an “A.I overview” which is infamously known to give incorrect information. Even on this very website, Change.org, you are given the option to use A.I to help write out your petition. At what point is it deemed belittling to think of people too incapable to describe their own feelings, and that it is better to have it dictated to them?
Entire towns are subjected to the environmental impact A.I is causing. In Mansfield, Georgia, a data center owned by Meta is sucking the water supply from the townspeople. They’re unable to use water from their faucets because it's murky and contaminated. As well as basic necessities like flushing a toilet are affected. Beverly Morris, a homeowner living only 400 yards away from the center has said, “I can’t drink the water.”
If we continue to allow this A.I takeover to fester without action. We’re at risk of losing the very beauty of the human condition. Originality and error. The Two Fridas could now be made within seconds with the right prompts. Why waste your time reading Wuthering Heights when the A.I synopsis could be given to you instead?
Action must be taken- laws must be passed. In order to ensure the future of the job market, artists and thinkers. This is not merely a complaint from people who cannot move with the times, but rather a stance taken, by people from all different walks of life, that we will not allow Artificial Intelligence to infiltrate our lives. Search engines and social media could easily offer ways for a person who doesn’t support A.I, to not have to see it or interact with it forcibly. While right now we are used as reluctant guinea pigs in their experiment to further A.I’s range of surveillance.
Take action now- Sign the petition and help urge local and national law makers to regulate A.I!
