Stop Folly Farm Yaxley Development — no to traffic, stable closure & pressure on services
The Issue
As a resident of Yaxley I am deeply concerned about the proposed construction of 130 houses in Yaxley and the impact of endless development on the people of Yaxley. Proposed access is on what is currently a single track road sandwiched between existing housing and Little Incredibles childrens nursery. Worryingly, the childrens nursery will be severely overlooked which raises privacy concerns.
To support this petition against the Folly Farm development in Yaxley, here are some key facts:
1. Traffic Congestion: The addition of more houses will inevitably lead to increased traffic congestion on London Road and other roads in Yaxley. Additional vehicles will access London Road two or more times a day, for example, to and from work, school and general activities, plus delivery vehicles. We have witnessed firsthand the negative impact other developments have had on our village which is being engulfed by Peterborough. The industrial units on Imperial Way, Falcon Way and Enterprise Park have resulted in commuter, lorry, construction and delivery traffic on Broadway B1091 through the village and there are already circa 5,500 homes being built in the Greater Haddon Development. Current road safety on London Road is already questionable with too many vehicles and a speeding issue if vehicles hit the traffic lights from the A1 on green. Access on the current stable entrance is already difficult with the cross road junction, blind spot to the right, bus stops and heavy fast traffic.
2. Strain on Local Services: Our current infrastructure is ill-equipped to handle an influx of new residents (Greater Haddon and Folly Farm) without adding further pressure on essential services like schools, healthcare facilities, and emergency services.
3. Threatened Closure of Stables: The Folly Farm development poses a direct threat to the local stables, which provide recreational and educational opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities. Losing this valuable asset would be detrimental to our community's well-being.
By signing this petition, you are expressing your support for preserving Yaxley and protecting it from excessive development. We urge the local council and relevant authorities to consider these and many other challenges around the Folly Farm development.
