To the Chatham County Commissioners: We the undersigned oppose zoning approval for the development of Fearrington Preserve, a proposed compact community that would sit between Andrews Store, Parker Herndon, and Morris roads. This proposed development is neither compact, nor a community that meets the purposes of Chatham County’s Compact Community Ordinance. It has five separate entrances on three separate roads; the five entrances lead to five different parcels of land which separate each part of the community from the others by roads and by Pokeberry Creek and its floodplain. This proposed community is not anchored by a village center, and does not integrate community facilities into the plan. If built, it will roughly double the number of cars that use Andrews Store, Parker Herndon, and Morris Roads.For all of the above reasons, we urge you to deny the “Compact Community” zoning request by Fearrington Preserve to move forward.
