Stop Fast Fashion Pollution

Stop Fast Fashion Pollution
The Issue
Background
Fast fashion pollution is the process of rapid design, production, distribution, marketing, and the throwing out of clothing. As our Earth is in a climate crisis, we should do anything and everything possible to slow down and put an end to it. We can start small with things like stopping fast fashion pollution. Fast fashion pollution accounts for 10% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. My goal with this project is to raise awareness and help to end fast fashion pollution.
Why is supporting fast fashion bad?
- Pollutes the Earth - contaminates water, creates harmful microplastics, and requires lots of energy and water to produce clothing.
- Exploits Workers - with low prices, workers don’t get paid fairly and work in terrible conditions.
- Harms Animals - animals are overcrowded and killed to make clothing.
- Brainwashes consumers - convinces consumers to buy more and more clothes they don’t need through lots of marketing.
- Harms Small Businesses - many fast fashion companies steal original design ideas and products from small businesses and mark them down in price, which makes customers want to buy the cheaper ones.
Things you can do to help
- Stop buying cheap clothing from big clothing brands such as Shein, H&M, Forever 21, Zara, etc.
- Start shopping second-hand and thrift! Or shop at local and/or small businesses
- Instead of constantly buying new clothes, wear the ones you have
- Upcycle old clothes, so they have new lives
- Start buying from sustainable clothing brands such as Levi's, Patagonia, Reformation, etc.
